Ten days from Sigiriya to the south coast
Negombo → Sigiriya → Kandy → Nuwara Eliya → Ella → Tissamaharama → Mirissa

Hill country
The cool, misty heart of tea country at about 1,900 metres, with tea factories to visit and the high plateau of Horton Plains nearby.
Nuwara Eliya was a hill station for the British colonial administration, and it still has the red-brick post office, a racecourse, a golf course and a lake. At almost 1,900 metres, nights are cold enough for a fire.
The real draw is the landscape around the town. Tea bushes cover the slopes, and several working factories, such as Pedro, show you how the leaf is withered, rolled and dried.
Horton Plains National Park, about an hour's drive south, is a high plateau of grassland and cloud forest with the sheer drop at World's End. Go at dawn for the best chance of clear views.
A 9 km loop walk across a high plateau to World's End, an escarpment with a drop of around 870 metres, and Baker's Falls. A UNESCO site as part of the Central Highlands.
Per person for foreign adults: US$25 entry plus a US$10 service charge and a vehicle charge, with 18% VAT (about US$42 in all, paid in rupees). Confirm at the gate.
A working tea factory a few minutes from town, with a short tour of the processing floor and tea tasting with views over the estate.
Reported at about LKR 1,000 for the tour and a cup of tea; confirm at the factory.
A reservoir from the British period at the edge of town, with a lakeside path and boats for hire.
Reported at about LKR 600 for foreign visitors; boats and rides are extra.
A hillside garden on the road to Ella, first planted in the 1860s for cinchona trials, now known for roses and cloud-forest views.
Planning price for foreign adults (2026 tariff); confirm at the gate.
